Hi, my name is Grant Michael Paschke and on October 26, 2005, I started living. I was born July 11th, 1988, but I was dead inside until that day in late October. Here’s how it happened. I had been looking for something, I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that there had to be some purpose, some point to life, because I had had enough of my own personal philosophy, which was get whatever you can out of life for yourself before you died. I agreed to start seeing a psychologist sometime before this, all he could give me were pills, he was a good man, but he couldn’t help me. Neither could the psychiatrist, nor the barrage of medication he had prescribed. It seemed as if I could not change myself, no matter how hard I tried, and I was going downhill fast. I had stolen seven hundred dollars from the place I worked but I hadn’t been caught yet, I was a drunk, I was sexually active, I had started smoking weed when I was 13, I disrespectful to my parents, I was looking at pornography, I was abusing my prescription medication and I was suicidal.
I was looking for purpose in my life. I had tried almost everything I could get my hands on. I just remember in the weeks leading to my salvation beginning a search for truth. I turned to philosophy, science, I even asked my English teacher about it and she started telling me how the Bible was just a bunch of fairy tales. I started reading this book call “The Dancing Woo Lee Masters”, it was about quantum mechanics. I basically said that there is no reality, or rather, what we see is not really real. This was un-nerving. Suddenly I was even more adrift in a sea of meaninglessness. On that Wednesday I was in a good mood. I had recently received an increase in my depression medication dosage and I was on my way to a youth pastors house to try some religion. Once I got there I just really remember a feeling of wanting to run away, wondering why I was there. Soon I was in his office and he started asking me some questions.
First he asked me if I had any religious background, I told him that I was a Christian. Then he asked me if I thought I was a good person, well who doesn’t think that they are a good person? So I said yeah. Then he asked me if he could ask me some more question to find out if I was a good person or not.
“Have you ever told a lie?”
“Yeah”, I said.
“What does that make you?”
“Human”
He kind of chuckled and said, “True, all people lie, but more specifically, a person who lies is a….?”
“A liar”, I answered.
“Have you ever stolen anything?”
“Yeah”, I remembered all the things I had stolen from my employer.
“What does that make you?”
“A Thief”
“Have you ever looked at a woman with lust, Jesus said “Whoever looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart”
“Yes”
“So if you walked out the door and died tonight, and you stood before a just and holy God and you were judged by just these three of the Ten Commandments, would you be guilty or innocent?”
“Guilty”
“Would that mean Heaven or Hell?”
“Hell”, I answered quietly.
“Does that concern you?”
It really did concern me. I just sat there in his office for along time, I don’t think I even talked, I didn’t want to leave. After a few minutes, he told me it was time for him to go, so I had to go home. I don’t remember the drive home. I do remember how I felt though. I felt like a thousand pounds was just sitting on my shoulders and it was tearing me up inside. I knew what I had to do, I knew the answer to my problem, but I didn’t want to give my heart to God.
As soon as the man I was speaking with reached the point where he confronted me with the fact that I was going to hell I was terrified to leave his home. I realized for the first time that I wasn’t indestructible, that at any moment my life could be snatched away from me, I realized I was only one heartbeat away from being in hell for eternity, and that terrified me. I had been in a couple of serious motorcycle and ATV accidents that could have very easily been fatal. I realized the truth that I wasn’t really a Christian, there was never any change in my life, Corinthians 5:17 says that “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation, the old had passed away, behold, all things have become new”. That had never happened in my life. I had had several times where I attempted to clean up my own life and failed, something Jesus spoke to in Mathew 12:43-45. I was still immersed in sin. No change, no salvation.
When I got home I was so depressed, I knew that if I wanted to get saved and follow Christ I would have to give up my old life, a life that, at the time, seemed very pleasurable to me. For a few hours I seemed to just float around, in deep inner turmoil and struggle. Finally I sat down and picked up a gospel tract. I don’t know where is came from, but that tract led me to Christ. It talked about the great ocean liner the titanic. It said that the people of the Titanic died primarily because they refused to believe that the ship was going to sink, they put all of their faith in it. The world is much the same. People never believe they are going to die, they put their faith in themselves, or in others, or in the power of ideas, but eventually, every one of us will die and stand before the judgment seat of God. I realized that it didn’t matter how long I lived, I was going to have to pay for my sin. I knew that Jesus had already done that, I just never knew how bad my sin was or how to get rid of it, how to get saved. I thought I was saved because I said I was a Christian. But that night for the first time I put my trust is Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior, putting Him in charge of my life.
Immediately after I was saved I began to listen to a Christian sermon I had on tape. My thoughts turned to those who like me, thought that they were already saved, but who were in fact not saved at all. I called the man who had spoken to me earlier that night and explained to him how I had accepted Jesus and we planned to meet for breakfast the next day. At our meeting he gave me a packet of Gospel tracts to hand out at school. I was so totally on fire that I couldn’t stop talking to people about what had happened. The first person I talked to was actually the person I had sold stolen merchandise to. I handed him a tract and he said, “oh, I’ll read it later”, I sat him down and in a forceful way told him he was going to read it now. My evangelistic means have become a little more refined over time I have to say, but it got him to read it.
The next part of my story is the most awful and powerful thing that had ever happened to me in my life. It also happens to be the most awful part of another young mans short life. As I was walking into second period Spanish class I saw a young man I knew quite well. I was actually looking for him and planning on speaking to him and sharing Christ with him. I can see him as clear as I see myself in the mirror, sitting there in the second row, two columns in from the far side of the room, bent over his desk not talking to anyone. I was about to talk to him, but I didn’t. I walked away and talked to someone else who I knew was already a Christian. The rest of the day passed and I spoke to many people and really turned our whole school upside down. Here was this kid who is a well known partier and drinker and thief, sexually immoral, and all of a sudden he is talking about Jesus. I can’t even imagine how it must have looked, I was so different, so on fire. I must have seemed almost crazy. That weekend I went away to visit relatives, when I returned on Sunday afternoon I was in my room getting ready for Sunday night Bible study when my dad came in. He asked me if I knew who this certain person was, the same person I wanted to talk to in school. He had died that weekend, the day after I wanted to share Christ with him. It is very rare that many days go by and I don’t see him in my mind, I imagine him walking down the street, sitting by me, so real. I think about where he is, and where I am, and I cry every single time I think about it. He is in Hell, right now.
You see, we are never ever guaranteed another day with someone. The chance that you give up to tell someone about Jesus may very well be the last chance that person has to hear about Jesus.. When the Bible says in 2 Peter 3:9 that “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” I take it to mean that God in His infinite wisdom made a way for all men to be saved. Jesus said “if I be lifted up I will draw all men to myself”. He said this as a foreshadowing of how he would die. God has already done the work, it is finished, now it is our job to take the message to the world. This is, I think, the most sobering verse for Christians, Ezekiel 3:18 says, “If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die’, and you do not warn him for Me, that he might turn from his wicked way and live, that man will die in his iniquity, but I will require the blood at your hands.” I’ve got blood on my hands, and if you have never shared you faith with someone, you certainly do as well. A well known Christian magazine took a poll among its readership, less than two percent of Christians share their faith. Many people I talk to say that they just don’t know where to start. There is a method for witnessing outlined in scripture.

“What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said “YOU SHALL NOT COVET.” Romans 7:7

“The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever...” Psalm 19:7-9

“Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith”. Galatians 3:24

“Realizing the fact that the Law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly, and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers”. 1 Titus 1:9

“The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes”, the law enlightens sinners of their transgressions, the fear of the Lord and the fact of impending judgment quickens their spirits and leaves them desperate to know what they must do to be saved, allowing you to lead them to the foot of a blood stained cross.
“The fear of the Lord is clean”, this sheds light on the “saving your own skin” mentality. The sinner, once confronted with his or her sin should be exceedingly fearful. John the Baptist said to the Pharisees, “You generation of vipers, who has warned you of the wrath to come?” There is wrath coming to all who have broken Gods holy and just Law, to not warn them of it is to adulterate the message of the Bible and to reduce the effect of gratitude on the new convert.
The modern gospel says; “Accept Jesus, He will give you peace, love, joy and everlasting happiness”, but this message does not work for everyone. What about people who are quite satisfied with their lives of sin, what about people who like stealing, lying, fornication, murder or people who don’t even believe in God at all? Some people are quite happy to “enjoy sin for a season”, why should they become Christians? Because it’s not a matter of peace, love, joy or happiness, it’s a matter of righteousness.
So lets say you witness to a person using the prosperity gospel and they say, “Hey, Jesus sounds pretty good according to this guy, and my life really does stink right now”, so they try Jesus to fulfill their lives just like they tried sex, or drugs, or any other self made god. Either they will meet the promised trials, tribulations and temptations that the Bible PROMISES Christians and throw away Christ, or they will find a place where they can continue their sinful lives and still pose as “Christians”.
But let’s say you use the Ten Commandments, the Law. You don’t just tell them they are sinner, you show them. You shut them up under law and stop their self-justification, you leave them broken and humbled before an offended God, you show them how they have broken Gods precious law. They are left with a contrite spirit, “A broken and contrite spirit, O’ God, thou wilt not despise”. Now the Gospel can come in, God’s grace makes sense, great mercy can only be shown in the light of great need, the Law leaves them needing. I remember when I learned of the law and how I had offended it, it took two hours for me to surrender my life to Jesus Christ, and I will tell you that those two hours were the longest hours of my life!
Now look at the new convert, when the trials, tribulations and temptations of this life come he will hold fast to his Savior because he knows where he would be without Him. He doesn’t throw away his faith when his life gets tough because he was never promised a good life. On the contrary his whole outlook on life has changed. What once gave him pleasure makes him sick to his stomach, what once gave him peace he now realizes is fleeting and that only in God is there any hope!

“All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work”. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“But know this first of all, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of ones own interpretation.” 2 Peter 1:20

“The fruit of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives for God, as a fisher of men-he gathers them for eternity.” Proverbs 11:30

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.” 2 Timothy 4:2

The Bible was given to us by God, it tells us how to live, instructs us in our relationships with men and with God himself. The Bible is not open for interpretation, it is Gods word and we are to obey it, disobedience is sin. The great underlying theme of the Bible is Gods redemption of sinful man. The Bible says, “The soul that sins, it will die”, this is true physically and spiritually for when Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they died spiritually, and later physically. As a result every son of Adam is born dead, dead spiritually and dying physically, for even when we first draw breath our days are numbered by God. A payment is due for sin, and wrath is being stored up daily for the wicked, “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked everyday. If He turn not, He will wet His sword; He hath bent His bow and made it ready.” (Psalms 7:11-12) But Jesus died for the sins of any who would call on His name and except the Biblical plan of salvation…..

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:13-15

We as Christians have a job, we are commanded to tell others what the Lord has done for us (Mk 5:19) and extend Gods plan of salvation to others so that they can except it and be saved, and the Bible even tells us how to do it. How dare we, as fallible humans, ignore what the infallible God has shown us for our own good? Look what our ignorance has done for us, the moral statistics for supposed Christians are higher than non-Christians! This aught not to be, but our idea of what a Christian is has changed with our idea of what the Gospel is, and as a result of which there are a vast number of people who have come into some sort of religious experience but who have never truly been saved, they are the ones who will say on Judgment day, “Lord, Lord”, and our beloved Master will reply, “I never knew you”, and they will spend and eternity in Hell. If you can find it in your heart to witness for no other reason than that you can’t imagine your friends spending an eternity in hell where “the worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched”, then let your heart be filled with compassion and tell them the truth! I can think of no better reason, my saviors sacrifice on that horrible cross, He died so they did not have to, but someone must tell them, tell everyone, shout it from the top of your voice, act like a fool, be hated for it, but for the love of God do it!
I have failed many times in this area, I can say with Paul that I did not come in elequency of speech, but was in much fear and trembling, and there are people who are or will be in Hell who I could have witnessed to, but I failed. Did you hear me? People are, or will be in hell because they have or will die in their sins and I did not share the saving message of Jesus Christ. But I fought, I studied, I died to myself and I did it. I still fail, but I don’t fail in the same ways I failed last month, the things I feared last month are not the same, because I fight to conquer them and then I realize how foolish it was to be afraid in the first place. Even as I write this I am convicted of my own foolishness. But that we would fight with all our heart to overcome the fears we have of sharing the gospel, of exiting our comfort zones, of shaking the boat, of breaking the rules for God. We need to fight to overcome our concept of what the correct time is, the Bible says that we should preach it in season and out of season, which means all the time!

“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power. How often we go tip toeing around with the gospel in a quiet timid sort of way, I am sometimes afraid that the time isn’t right for the gospel, making excuses in my heart that it is the wrong place and that I will do it later, or that I have already done enough today, or even that I just don’t want to. Or for some people they are afraid of how they will be perceived. Sometimes Satan tries to tell us that we are out of place, or that this is not our place, we should just go home. Are we not sons and daughters of God? Does not God own the earth and everything in it? For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power! When I am handing out tracts on the street I am handing out tracts on God’s street, when you go to school you are going into God’s school, and what are you going to do with God’s school? Preach the gospel! We are Gods message, and every step we take that our foot lands on God’s good earth, it becomes ours to preach the Gospel, for there is no ownership other than God’s ownership, no house but God’s house, no authority but the one God has put in place, and everything comes second to the preaching of the Gospel. “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity but of power and love and discipline”, and “….for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you.”

“When I say to the wicked, you shall surely die; and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way, that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.” Ezekiel 3:18

Paul spoke of being in debt to all men who have not heard the Gospel, and when a group of Jews denied the gospel he shook out his garments and said “Your blood be upon your own heads, I am clean.”(Acts18:6) Friends we are indebted to those who have not heard the gospel and to those who may have, but have not yet accepted it.

With only a few simple questions we can show someone their utter failure to keep the law. We circumnavigate the intellect and speak directly to the conscience. You don’t have to argue about God or about science at all. It will never come up because the law is written on the hearts of all men, all men know it is wrong to steal, kill, lie etc. When we confront them with that fact it has a very sobering effect, their mouths stop and they start to nod in agreement. And remember this is nothing new, this is the same way witnessing has been done for 1900 years, up until the last century when the prosperity gospel became popular. When sincere men replaced the Law with “Jesus will give___”, no matter what you fill the blank with, its wrong. Paul said “Wherefore knowing the terror of the Lord we persuade men”.

1. Would you consider yourself to be a good person?

When the rich young ruler comes to Jesus he calls Him good, Jesus says in essence, “why do you call me good, only God is good.” The Ten Commandments are an expression of God’s character. Jesus is saying that “goodness” is dependant on the law, for none has kept the law on earth except Jesus, God in human form. So when we ask this question it sets them up to measured by the standard of the law.

1. Have you ever told a lie?
What does that make you? A person who lies is a liar.

2. Have you ever stolen anything, even something very small?
What does that make you? A person who steals is a thief.

3. Have you ever looked at someone and had sexual thoughts? Jesus said whoever looks at someone to lust after them has committed adultery in their hearts, this includes premarital sex. Do you know what these are? They are 3 of the Ten Commandments. The rest are;

4. Have you ever hated someone? Jesus said if you even hate someone you are a murderer at heart.

Usually using these four commandments you can effectively speak to the conscience of most people. But some hearts are harder than others. That is why it is essential to know all ten and to be able to speak to each and explain them in depth.

1. You shall have no other gods before me. This means we should love God above all else.
2. You shall not make for yourself a graven image. That can mean a god to suit ourselves with our hands, or our minds.
4. You shall not take God’s name in vain. This is called blasphemy, when we take God’s name and use it as a curse word.
5. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. The New Testament says to pick one day in seven to observe as a day of rest in reverence of God.
6. Honor your father and mother. Disobedience in any form is dishonoring.
7. You shall not murder. Jesus said whoever hates his brother has committed murder in his heart.
8. You shall not commit adultery. Lust is considered as adultery; includes premarital sex.
9. You shall not steal.
10. You shall not covet.

Galatians 3:10
“For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM.”

The Bible says that no one has kept the law.
James 2:10
For whoever keeps the whole Law and yet stumbles in one point is guilty of all.”

Romans 3:9-12
What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written, THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10
“The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart; I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

The Bible says God has appointed a day to judge every man in righteousness, righteousness based on the 10 Commandments. If you died today, and you stood before God and He judged you by the Ten Commandments, like the Bible says he will, would you be guilty or innocent of breaking the Ten Commandments?
Guilty.

Would that mean heaven, or hell?
Hell.

Mathew 13:41-42
“The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Mathew 25:41
“Then he will say to those on His left, depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.”

Isaiah 66:24
“Then they shall go forth and look on the corpses of the men who have transgressed against Me. For their worm shall not die, and their fire shall not be quenched; and they shall be an abhorrence to all mankind.”

It doesn’t have to be that way! There is a way. Jesus Christ came to this earth, God in human flesh, and died a horrible, bloody death on the cross to pay for our sins. The Bible says that Jesus became sin for us, so that God’s wrath would be satisfied by Jesus’ blood, because Jesus led a perfect life under the Law, He could take all the sins of this world, past, present and future, on Himself. He died on that cross, was buried, and rose again, flesh and blood. He dwelt on this earth for a short time after his resurrection, and then ascended to Heaven.
He paid for your sins, He paid for my sins, but you have to come to Him broken with an understanding that you are a sinner and that you don’t deserve His mercy, but because He is merciful He will forgive you. Jesus said, “Unless you repent you shall likewise perish”. The first step is repentance, which means to acknowledge your sin, to change your mind about it, and to turn from it. Then we must believe, which does not just mean to just believe that there was a man named Jesus but to trust in Him, to transfer the ownership of your life to Him, believing and trusting that He is able to save you.
I want you right now, to confess your sins to God, tell him everything, He already knows, He wants to hear it from you, every sin you can think of, confess it To God……………..
You have to believe in Jesus, this literally means that when you believe you become Jesus’, you make him the Lord of your life in every way. Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”
All that’s left is to pray to God, committing your life to Him. Romans 10:13 “For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear God,
I know I’m a sinner and I don’t deserve your grace. I realize and believe that you sent your Son to come down to the earth and die a horrible death on the cross. I believe He rose again. I am willing to turn from my sins (name your sins) and completely live for you. Please come into my life and save me. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
